SECO USA Previews Latest BatterySmart Software at Windows Embedded DevCon

San Diego, CA, June 29th, 2004—SECO USA, Inc., a leading provider of low-power handheld and wireless device platform technologies, today detailed the featured technologies and products that will be shown at its booth #207 at the Windows Embedded Developers’ Conference.

SECO USA will be debuting version 3 of its award-winning BatterySmart dynamic power management software for handheld and wireless devices. This software, slated for release this summer, includes major new technologies in dynamic run-time power and performance management on handheld and wireless devices. The patent-pending BatterySmart analysis algorithms now include on-the-fly core voltage adjustment in tandem with clock frequency adjustment, and the algorithms incorporate a more nuanced view of device performance, all while maintaining the low computational overhead of earlier versions of BatterySmart. Developers that incorporate the new BatterySmart software into their device designs can expect significantly greater reductions in energy consumption and longer battery life. Furthermore, developers will now have an extensive application programming interface (API) that will allow them to fully understand and integrate power and performance issues into their device designs.

“With the new BatterySmart, SECO USA is capitalizing on several years of advanced research in dynamic power management for battery-operated devices,” said Andrew Girson, SECO USA’s CEO. “Developers that use SECO USA’s BatterySmart now have complete control over the run-time power management aspects of their designs, to an extent not previously possible.”

SECO USA will be demonstrating BatterySmart on its standard handheld/wireless reference platforms, including the Elf3 and Fingertip3. These platforms are based on Intel’s PXA255 (“XScale”) microprocessor and Microsoft’s Windows CE.NET 4.2 operating system, and incorporate advanced low-power technologies, including run-time core voltage adjustment.

SECO USA also will be demonstrating several customer products, including a handheld voice translation device and an advanced handheld GPS receiver.
Additionally, SECO USA will brief customers and editors on its upcoming next-generation reference platforms. These next-generation platforms will incorporate Intel’s new PXA270 (“Bulverde”) microprocessor and sophisticated wireless and power management software technologies, all within SECO USA’s trademark small form factor designs.

Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Developers’ Conference takes place June 29th through July 1st at the San Diego Convention Center. To arrange an appointment for an editor briefing, please contact Rebecca Mettler at 703-867-7897.
