SECO USA Introduces Elf3 Reference Platform

XScale-Based Platform Greatly Extends Battery Life
San Francisco, CA, April 22, 2003 – SECO USA, Inc., a leader in handheld and wireless device platforms for OEMs, today announced at the Embedded Systems Conference the immediate availability of its latest Elf board-level platform, the Elf3. The Elf3 incorporates Intel’s new XScale microprocessor along with advanced dynamic power management hardware and software technologies that can extend battery life dramatically when compared to other platforms and previous Elf products.

“Our third-generation Elf platform extends our industry-leading power management technologies while providing support for new peripherals,” said Andrew Girson, SECO USA’s CEO. “With the latest version of our BatterySmart dynamic power management software and a finely tuned hardware design that now supports an even wider range of battery types and chemistries, the Elf3 is engineered to provide a peripheral-rich core solution for developers of full-featured handheld devices.”

The Elf3 also benefits from SECO USA’s award-winning BatterySmart system software suite. BatterySmart now incorporates XScale’s new dynamic performance monitoring capabilities and includes features such as an improved real-time dynamic clock-scaling algorithm, reduced power peripheral software drivers, and additional measurement and analysis tools. Using BatterySmart3, Elf3’s overall power consumption is maintained in the range of 400 to 1200 mW.
New Elf3 development platforms are available now with SECO USA’s BatterySmart3 software for Microsoft Corp.’s Windows CE 3.0 and Linux. Development platform pricing is $3495, boards are available for volume purchase, and the complete Elf3 reference platform is also available for licensing.
