SECO USA Announces R&D Contract for Low-Power Miniature Device Design

US Army Project Will Create Wireless Neck-Worn Pendant for Storing Lifelong Medical History
Rockville, MD, March 29th, 2004—SECO USA, Inc., a leading provider of low-power handheld and wireless device platform technologies, today announced that it has received a contract from the United States Army to develop a new electronic Personal Information Carrier (PIC). The PIC – a storage device approximately the size of a traditional dogtag – will contain a soldier’s complete medical records, including basic parameters such as blood type and advanced multimedia information such as x-ray images.
The goal of this effort is to create a device that can be accessed by caregivers throughout the evacuation chain, from battlefield medics to hospital workers. SECO USA will extend its base of intellectual property for low-power wireless devices to develop technologies that aggressively reduce the energy requirements of the PIC, which will allow it to operate over a multi-year period.

Development on this contract will continue through the first half of 2004, with potential for additional follow-on funding.
